Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Transportation plans to reopen Pulau Baai Port in Bengkulu by early July 2025, with dredging of the shipping channel expected to finish by late June.

The move is critical to maintaining logistical access to surrounding regions, especially Enggano Island.

"We hope that Pulau Baai Port in Bengkulu will be operational by early July," Director General of Sea Transportation, Muhammad Masyhud stated on Sunday.

Masyud confirmed ongoing supervision of the work and the preparation of SOPs and seaworthiness inspections for vessels operating at the port.

Essential supplies and fuel for Enggano Island—heavily reliant on the port—remain adequate until the end of July, despite only 12 hours of daily electricity access.

Masyhud called on all stakeholders to work together to enhance public services in Bengkulu, especially for Enggano Island.

The Directorate General is committed to maritime safety through continued inspections and infrastructure readiness.
