Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that the government is currently awaiting feedback on the reciprocal tariff negotiation process with the United States.

"Indonesia has submitted its second offer to the United States Trade Representative (USTR), which has already been reviewed. We are now waiting for additional feedback related to the ongoing negotiation process," Hartarto said on Wednesday.

A few days ago, the Indonesian government was reported to have submitted a second-best offer in an effort to negotiate reciprocal tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump.

Ahead of the negotiation deadline on July 8, the minister said the requests submitted by the US government, both in the form of tariffs and trade barriers, had been agreed to by the Indonesian government.

His ministry has established direct communication with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who expressed appreciation for several offers made by Indonesia. However, the final decision on tariff negotiations between Indonesia and the US does not depend on just one party.

Hartarto noted that the US government must coordinate with the USTR, the Department of Commerce, and the Department of the Treasury.

According to him, the final result of the negotiations—which involves multiple document exchanges between the two countries—is dynamic due to considerations for other countries that are also negotiating tariffs.

"The Indonesian team is on standby in Washington and China. We are waiting for a response from the US government. They are currently busy with the peak budget period until July 4. Afterwards, this tariff issue can be discussed further," he noted.

The deadline for tariff negotiations falls on July 8, 2025, or 90 days after President Trump announced the imposition of reciprocal tariffs on major trading partner countries in early April 2025.

The main demand of the US government in imposing a 32 percent reciprocal tariff on Indonesia is aimed at balancing the trade relationship between the two countries.
