Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - Around 4,000 runners took on the dramatic karst cliffs of Pandawa Beach in Bali during the Bank BPD Bali Culture Run 2025 on Sunday.

“This event combines health, tourism, and cultural promotion through sport,” said Bank BPD Bali President I Nyoman Sudharma.

Held for the second time since its 2024 debut, which drew 2,500 participants, this year’s event introduced a unique sustainability touch: eco-friendly medals made from recycled chopsticks.

Each finisher received a medal crafted from approximately 59 recycled chopsticks, helping reduce an estimated 94.28 kilograms of CO₂ equivalent emissions (CO₂e). Sudharma said the initiative was aimed at raising environmental awareness among participants.

Runners competed in two categories: 5 kilometers and 10 kilometers. The route offered stunning views of Pandawa Beach and the Indian Ocean, with participants navigating paved roads, steep inclines, and downhill paths between towering limestone cliffs.

The event also featured a performance by popular Indonesian pop band RAN, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Several officials joined the 10K race, including Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya, Inspector General Sang Made Mahendra Jaya, and Bali Provincial Secretary Dewa Made Indra.

The 2025 BPD Bali Culture Run also embraced sustainable values, drawing inspiration from Bali’s Tri Hita Karana philosophy, which encourages harmony between humanity, nature, and the divine.
