Jambi (ANTARA) - The forest and land fire task force has continued weather modification operations (OMC) to spread 13 tons of salt on clouds to induce artificial rain in Jambi and anticipate forest fires ahead of the dry season.

“This operation involves several parties, including the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), PT Wira Karya Sakti (WKS), and PT Songo Aviasi Indonesia,” BMKG supervisor Faisal Sunarto said here on Tuesday.

While the operation is planned to continue until July 10, 2025, its schedule is dynamic and could change based on evaluation.

No hotspots were detected in Jambi on Wednesday.

PT WKS, a private company, has lent support for the weather modification operation in Jambi by providing 10 tons of salt for cloud seeding.

“PT WKS will conduct weather modification operations with the BMKG for 10 days. We hope other companies will also contribute to this activity,” Sunarto informed.

Weather modification measures are considered crucial to anticipate the dry season, which is expected to become increasingly dry in the coming months.

The task force expressed the hope that artificial rain would help minimize the risk of land and forest fires in Jambi.
