Jakarta (ANTARA) - Secretary General of the Ministry of Home Affairs Tomsi Tohir called on regional heads to thoroughly evaluate inflation control efforts in their respective regions.

“I urged regional heads to check whether the relevant offices are making the efforts,” Tohir remarked at the coordination meeting on regional inflation control in Jakarta on Monday.

The ministry's secretary general underlined that inflation control requires a planned and collaborative strategy and cannot rely solely on conventional work patterns.

Referring to weekly data for July, Tohir noted an upward trend in the prices of several commodities across various regions.

He noted that the number of regions experiencing an increase in shallot prices rose from 251 districts to 260 districts.

Several other commodities that saw price increases include bird's eye chilies, rice, eggs, and chicken meat.

However, he expressed appreciation for the stability of garlic prices amid the fluctuating prices of other commodities.

He also called on regional governments to actively analyze and address the sources of inflation in their respective regions.

Tohir emphasized the importance of coordination between regional governments and Statistics Indonesia (BPS) to objectively identify the commodities contributing to inflation.

He said Sukabumi, Yogyakarta, and Tegal are among the regions that recorded inflation above the national average, while Pangkalpinang, Jambi, Pontianak, and Gorontalo were deemed successful in maintaining price stability.

Of all the regions monitored, 99 showed inflation above the national average.

In this context, the secretary general urged regional heads to review the causes of price spikes and the quality of human resource management in the field.

He also encouraged the optimization of several concrete measures, such as cheap market operations, coordination between producing and consumer regions, and the utilization of regional budgets to provide transportation support for the distribution of staple goods.
