Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta government is conducting a trial run of the Rorotan Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) facility in North Jakarta using dry waste from a waste processing facility under the reduce, reuse, and recycle concept (TPS 3R).

Head of the Integrated Waste Management Unit (UPST) of the Jakarta Provincial Environmental Service (DLH), Agung Pujo Winarko, on Monday informed that as part of the trial, the plant is converting 50 tons of dry waste into fuel per day.

In August 2025, its capacity will be increased to 150–500 tons per day with the addition of wet waste. The plan is to gradually raise the capacity to 500–2,500 tons by September, Winarko informed.

“We will not immediately test the facility with a large capacity. We evaluate each trial. We want to ensure that the RDF is running optimally and perfectly,” he said.

While awaiting full operation, the provincial government is improving emission and odor control at the plant, including by adding three deodorizer units.

“Now, there are four units (deodorizers) in the processing area, product warehouse, and residue area,” he added.

He informed that his party met with representatives of Jakarta Garden City (JGC) residents regarding the operation of RDF Rorotan.

The meeting was held to brief them about the progress of environmental control improvements as well as plans for testing and operations at the plant.

According to Winarko, residents lauded the improvements made at the RDF plant. They also requested the Jakarta provincial government to maintain its commitment.

“So far, they support RDF as long as the negative impacts can be mitigated,” he said.

Earlier, Minister of Environment, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, demanded that the RDF Rorotan plant be operationalized in July to convert sorted waste into alternative fuel.

RDF Rorotan is a waste management facility that converts waste into alternative fuel for power plants, cement factories, and other industries requiring thermal energy.

The facility is expected to have a waste processing capacity of 2,500 tons per day.
