"According to a preliminary assessment, some 38 homes in Tindoli Village, Southeast Pamona Sub-district, were damaged," Central Sulawesi's Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Head Akris Fattah Yunus stated here on Tuesday.
The BPBD's quick response team also found that although no casualties were reported, some 20 residents evacuated to safer locations, such as relatives' or neighbors' homes, following the tremor.
While conditions remain stable, Yunus noted that residents continue to stay vigilant for potential aftershocks.
"Minor damages were seen at some homes, while some residents decided to evacuate to safer places due to fear of aftershocks," Yunus remarked.
The BPBD team has coordinated with village officials for disaster response efforts and determined that medicine and shelter tents are the most urgent needs for those affected, the agency head remarked.
According to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the 5.2-magnitude quake rattled Central Sulawesi at 8:52 p.m. local time, with its epicenter located 14 km below ground, west of the Southeast Pamona Sub-district in Poso District.
A BMKG analysis revealed that the quake was triggered by activities along the Poso fault and exhibited strike-slip movement. An aftershock with a magnitude of 2.7 was registered at 9:15 p.m. local time.
The BMKG confirmed that this earthquake did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami.
