Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has expressed his support for greater public involvement in helping the Indonesian National Police (Polri) maintain order and security in society.

He demonstrated this stance by inaugurating the new headquarters of Senkom Mitra Polri, or the Communication Center of Polri’s Partners—a community organization dedicated to assisting the police in safeguarding public safety.

“In the name of God, I hereby inaugurate the Headquarters of Senkom Mitra Polri. Hopefully, this building will be put to good use,” he remarked at the launch event in East Jakarta on Thursday.

The vice president emphasized that the new headquarters serves not only as a physical facility but also as a symbol of renewed spirit and solidarity in fostering greater cooperation between the police and the public in upholding order and security.

Highlighting community involvement in Polri’s work, he commended Senkom Mitra Polri for the active participation of its members in a parade during the national event marking the 79th anniversary of the police earlier this month.

He then stressed the importance of police-community collaboration, especially since Indonesia is a vast archipelago with more than 17 thousand islands and a highly diverse population.

He affirmed that Polri cannot work alone and needs strategic partnerships with communities to perform its duties more effectively. In this regard, he thanked all members of Senkom Mitra Polri for their contributions to public order and security.

Meanwhile, Chairperson of Senkom Mitra Polri, Katno Hadi, reiterated his organization’s commitment to supporting the authorities not only in maintaining security but also in promoting national values and mitigating natural disasters.

“We, at Senkom Mitra Polri, are striving to align our steps with government priority programs. We fully understand that synergy between the government and the public is key to successful national development,” he stated.
