According to a statement released here on Friday, the two leaders discussed collaboration in sports, culture, housing, investment, and finance during the 8th Local and Regional Governments Forum on the 2030 Agenda in New York, the United States.
“This meeting also serves as a follow-up to the letter of intent the two cities signed in Buenos Aires back in October 2018,” Pramono said.
Both Jakarta and Buenos Aires have been actively engaging in paradiplomacy, fostering multilateral cooperation through various platforms, notably the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group and Urban 20, an engagement group under the G20.
The two capital cities have used Urban 20 to highlight strategic urban issues of mutual concern to the governments of G20 countries.
The 8th Local and Regional Governments Forum on the 2030 Agenda took place on Wednesday as part of the UN High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development.
At the event, regional governments from around the world exchanged views on the roles municipal and local governments can play in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
This year’s forum emphasized multi-level governance, inclusive public services, and investments that can support local-level SDG achievements amid rising geopolitical tensions and the limited time remaining before 2030.
The event was organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), the Global Taskforce of Local and Regional Governments (GTF), UN-Habitat, the UN Development Programme (UNDP), and the Local2030 coalition.
Governor Pramono is currently co-president (Asia-Pacific region) of United Cities and Local Governments, which is a part of the GTF. He is scheduled to wrap up his agenda in New York on Friday and return to Indonesia between July 19 and 20, 2025.
