Jakarta (ANTARA) - Ministry of Youth and Sports is promoting early-stage football talent development through the 2025 Menpora Cup U-12 and U-15 tournaments, held across 34 provinces, with the kickoff taking place in Ternate, North Maluku.

“I believe North Maluku holds a wealth of potential that could one day carry on the legacy of our national team seniors,” Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo stated at the opening ceremony of the Menpora Cup U-12 and U-15 2025 in Ternate, as quoted by the ministry's website on Friday.

The minister selected Ternate as the kickoff location based on his belief in the region's strong potential to produce future football stars for Indonesia.

On the occasion, he also praised the North Maluku governor for organizing the 2025 Governor’s Cup—a football tournament dedicated to young players.

“This is exactly what we need—proactive support from the regions to nurture the talents of our young athletes,” he remarked.

Accompanied by Deputy for Sports Culture Sri Wahyuni, Dito expressed his joy at witnessing the enthusiasm of young players participating in the tournament.

He attributed this enthusiasm to the strong support and guidance from parents who encourage their children to actively engage in football.

The minister emphasized that all participants in the Menpora Cup and Governor’s Cup are part of the larger journey to shape the future of Indonesian sports.

He cited a recent milestone by Indonesia’s U-23 national team, which secured an 8–0 victory over Brunei, as an example of such progress.

“Young players like you will have the opportunity to represent Indonesia as part of the national team. By participating in the Menpora Cup and the Governor’s Cup, you are taking part in the process of making history,” he added.

Dito encouraged young players to enjoy the journey while embracing the values of unity and perseverance in their pursuit of excellence.

The 2025 Menpora Cup U-12 and U-15 tournaments will begin at the district and city levels, followed by regional competitions in August. Sixteen regional teams will then advance to the national series, which will be held in Surabaya in September.
