“What we are doing is strengthening collaboration between the government, industry players, universities, and communities to educate digital talent in Indonesia,” Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, said in a written statement received here on Tuesday.
He emphasized the importance of developing superior human resources in the field of AI as part of the national agenda under President Prabowo Subianto’s leadership.
He added that the effort is aimed at strengthening digital infrastructure and developing digital talents, in line with the Asta Cita goals.
There are currently 9.3 million digital talents in Indonesia, while the demand for digital talents is projected to reach 12 million by 2030, he pointed out.
To address the deficit of approximately 3 million talents, the ministry is preparing the AI Talent Factory as a research- and industry-based digital talent development center.
“The AI Talent Factory program is expected to become an AI hub connecting digital talents with industry, plus identifying problems that can be solved by adopting AI in each sector,” he said.
Through the program, talents will be trained to get directly involved in national strategic projects, covering priority sectors such as health, education, financial services, and agriculture.
The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs has been running the Digital Talent Scholarship Program and the Digital Leadership Academy for the past five years.
According to Patria, the AI Talent Factory will be the next accelerator for all these initiatives.
“The government has been improving the skills of our digital talents for the past five years. Kemkomdigi is currently working quite intensively and is expected to complete the AI Talent Factory process within the next three months,” he informed.
He said that meeting the need for digital talents will have a direct impact on the growth of the national digital economy. Currently, Indonesia contributes 40 percent to the ASEAN region’s digital economy.
“If the need for digital talents is met, at least we can leverage the use of AI and have an economic impact as well. Don’t forget that AI is part of the digital ecosystem that the government is encouraging to grow,” he added.
The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs is also designing strategic policies to strengthen the national digital ecosystem, including infrastructure and regulations that are adaptive to AI developments.
“The government is currently preparing an AI Road Map, and we also plan to propose a presidential regulation for the adoption of AI technology in relation to its development and use in various sectors,” he explained.
