Jakarta (ANTARA) - Secretary General of the Home Affairs Ministry Tomsi Tohir has asked high-inflation regions, particularly those whose annual inflation exceeded the national average of 1.87 percent in June 2025, to take prompt steps to check price spikes.

The ten provinces with the highest inflation rates are South Papua (3 percent), Bali (2.94 percent), West Sulawesi (2.57 percent), Southeast Sulawesi (2.52 percent), Yogyakarta (2.52 percent), West Nusa Tenggara (2.51 percent), Central Sulawesi (2.47 percent), South Sumatra (2.44 percent), Central Papua (2.33 percent), and Lampung (2.27 percent).

“These ten provinces, from South Papua to Lampung, need to be reminded,” Tohir said during an inflation control coordination meeting at the ministry’s office in Jakarta on Tuesday.

“The national average is 1.87 percent, marked by the green line. Provinces above this line must make their best efforts to bring inflation down,” he added.

In terms of the Price Development Index (IPH), a proxy for inflation, Jakarta recorded the highest IPH of 2.35 percent in the fourth week of July.

It was followed by East Kalimantan (2.24 percent), North Sulawesi (2.03 percent), Bali (1.93 percent), Gorontalo (1.84 percent), West Sulawesi (1.77 percent), East Nusa Tenggara (1.75 percent), Maluku (1.74 percent), Bengkulu (1.67 percent), and North Sumatra (1.61 percent).

“We especially urge Jakarta, as the central hub, to evaluate its situation and identify the key factors behind the higher overall prices compared to other provinces. I request the representative from Jakarta to seriously follow up on this,” Tohir said.

Commodity price trends in the fourth week of July showed an increase in the rates of several key items, with the prices of shallots rising in 296 districts/cities, bird’s eye chilies in 267, and rice in 219.

“When we talk about rice, prices are up in all zones -- one, two, and three,” he added.

Tomsi also emphasized the need for effective and focused discussions during inflation coordination meetings.

He urged speakers, both those attending in person and online, to present fresh perspectives and avoid repeating data covered by other agencies.

Speakers were encouraged to provide updated data and analyses that reflect the prevailing situation in the field.

“I request different viewpoints, since we are trying to formulate solutions. Let’s keep these meetings concise. If something has already been discussed by BPS or others, please focus on analysis rather than repeating figures,” he said.

The meeting was attended in person by deputy for distribution and service statistics at Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Pudji Ismartini, and director general for rural housing at the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, Imran.

They were joined by acting deputy II for economic affairs and food at the Presidential Staff Office (KSP), Edy Priyono, and deputy I for food availability and stability at the National Food Agency (Bapanas), I Gusti Ketut Astawa.
