Head of the Socio-Cultural Division of Papua's Baperida, Makmur Malino, stated in Jayapura on Tuesday that the training aims to reduce violence against children and to strengthen cross-sectoral cooperation in fulfilling children's rights across the province.
"Children's issues need to be addressed across sectors. For example, neglected children need to be handled from a social perspective, while children who are out of school must receive attention from an educational perspective," he elaborated.
Malino said his agency has formulated a policy that prioritizes child protection.
"Therefore, this three-day activity must involve various stakeholders, such as the Children's Forum, the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), and Cenderawasih University," he stated.
He further explained that the formulated policy focuses on child welfare indicators to ensure equal access to education and protection for all generations in Papua.
Meanwhile, UNICEF Child Protection Officer in Papua, Diana Andriani, stated that the activity not only focuses on policy development but also on building collective awareness that child protection is a shared responsibility.
"Besides budgeting, involving children is also important. Children need to be given the space to inspire others to prevent violence against others," she affirmed.
Andriani stated that children exist not only within their families but also as part of the broader social community.
"Therefore, utilizing children's potential and capacity as agents of change is a crucial part of strategies to prevent child abuse," she remarked.
