Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Human Rights Ministry condemned the sexual abuse of minors, including the alleged acts committed by former Ngada Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner (AKBP) Fajar Widyadharma Lukman Sumaatmaja (FWLS), viewing them as a grave infringement of human dignity.

The ministry emphasizes that such criminal acts demand stringent punishment, as they not only damage the police institution's reputation but also undermine public trust in child protection commitments.

"We commend the police's actions and urge them to prosecute the perpetrator according to due process," Director General of Human Rights Services and Compliance Munafrizal Manan noted in a statement on Friday.

The ministry also called upon local governments and policymakers to prioritize comprehensive support for child victims. This includes physical, psychological, and social care, psychosocial assistance, and support throughout the judicial process.

"As a nation that has ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child and is bound by the Child Protection Law, the government, at both central and regional levels, must actively protect children from sexual crimes," Manan asserted.

He stated that children are a vulnerable group requiring special protection. This responsibility falls upon all parties, including parents, families, society, and the state, as well as law enforcement officials, as stipulated in Article 52 of Law Number 39 of 1999 concerning Human Rights.

Child vulnerability extends to the digital realm, as evidenced by the alleged dissemination of sexual violence content by FWLS. The ministry, therefore, advocates for the rigorous enforcement of child protection provisions within electronic systems.

Furthermore, Manan stressed the need for collaborative efforts to safeguard children, mainly from sexual violence, and create a secure environment for their growth and development.

"We all hope to prevent future cases, especially those involving law enforcement personnel," Manan remarked.

Earlier, on Thursday, March 13, FWLS was named a suspect in cases involving immorality and drug use. He faces multiple charges and is detained at the Police Bareskrim Detention Center.

FWLS is accused of drug use, child sexual abuse, engaging in sexual intercourse or adultery outside of marriage, and recording and distributing videos of sexual abuse.

The former police chief of Ngada District of East Nusa Tenggara Province allegedly sexually abused three minors, aged six, 13, and 16, and a 20-year-old adult.

Additionally, FWLS is suspected of recording his sexual acts and uploading the videos to a child pornography site or forum on the dark web. The police are investigating his motives.

Further investigation by the Professional and Internal Security Division (Divpropam) confirmed FWLS's positive drug test.
