Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) are co-organizing the Australia-Indonesia Science Management and Innovation Symposium to jointly advance their research and innovation ecosystems.

The event is scheduled to run from July 28 to August 1, according to a statement from BRIN in Jakarta on Wednesday.

“This symposium is a concrete manifestation of the strategic collaboration between Indonesia and Australia in enhancing research and innovation management systems,” BRIN’s Deputy for Research and Innovation Facilitation Agus Haryono noted in the statement.

He remarked that the joint event brings together over 100 participants, including researchers, policymakers, and program managers working in research and innovation.

The official expressed hope that the symposium would offer a valuable opportunity for BRIN staff to strengthen the agency’s capacity, share experiences, drive innovations with tangible impacts on national development, and elevate ties between BRIN and CSIRO.

Meanwhile, CSIRO’s Director for Southeast Asia, Amelia Fyfield, highlighted that both research agencies view the symposium as a way to build their institutional capacities and encourage knowledge and experience exchange between Indonesian and Australian researchers.

She remarked that the event is also expected to help integrate science, technology, and innovation, noting that her organization is ready to support BRIN in boosting its capacity.

Counsellor for Development Effectiveness and Humanitarian Affairs at Australia’s Jakarta Embassy, Simon Flores, affirmed Australia's strong commitment to deepening its ties with Indonesia.

In this context, he described the symposium as a solid first step toward strengthening relations between BRIN and CSIRO, reflecting the shared commitment of both countries to forging a more transformative and impactful partnership.

The symposium began with an introductory session on July 28–29, during which BRIN provided CSIRO with a comprehensive overview of Indonesia’s scientific ecosystem. It was then officially inaugurated at the BRIN Headquarters in Central Jakarta on Wednesday.

The event will also feature a Masterclass Series on July 31, followed by networking and brainstorming sessions on August 1.
