"Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. On behalf of myself and the entire Ministry of Religious Affairs, I extend my deepest condolences on the passing of Mr. H. Suryadharma Ali," Nasaruddin remarked in Jakarta on Thursday.
He remembered the late minister as a devoted figure who worked tirelessly to strengthen the country’s religious governance.
During his tenure, Suryadharma was known for reinforcing religious institutions, improving education services in Islamic schools and pesantren (Islamic boarding schools), and initiating various bureaucratic reforms within the ministry.
"He played a vital role in modernizing the Hajj pilgrimage system, including the digitalization of Hajj services, which laid the foundation for today’s Hajj transformation," the minister remarked.
"His contributions to promoting interfaith dialogue also deserve recognition as part of broader efforts to maintain national harmony," he stated.
Nasaruddin, who served as Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs under Suryadharma’s leadership, also urged all ministry staff to perform shalat gaib (a special prayer for the deceased) and offer prayers for the late minister.
"May Allah SWT bestow His mercy and compassion upon the deceased. Al-Fatihah," he remarked.
