Jakarta (ANTARA) - House of Representatives (DPR) Commission IV chair Siti Hediati Hariyadi and other members discussed agricultural cooperation with Australian Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry, Julie Collins, and British Ambassador Dominic Jermey in separate meetings on Friday.

The meetings were held in Jakarta.

“The cooperation (was discussed) in the first (meeting) with the Australian Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry, and then the (second meeting) with the British Ambassador,” Hariyadi, also known as Titiek Soeharto, said at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta.

She informed that the collaborations discussed in the meetings included the concession of 90 thousand hectares of land for an elephant conservation area.

“They thanked us because we have given them a conservation area for elephants. They initially only asked for 10 thousand hectares, but they got 90 thousand hectares. So, they’re very grateful,” she said.

She added that the meetings also covered technological assistance to optimize the benefits of government fertilizer subsidies.

“So that (fertilizer subsidies) are distributed to areas that truly need them. Before subsidized fertilizer is provided, the soil is assessed to see what fertilizer levels are needed. They will provide assistance with this technology, and there are pilot projects in several locations in Indonesia,” she informed.
