Jakarta (ANTARA) - Six inmates from East Jakarta's Cipinang Penitentiary have been released after President Prabowo Subianto granted them amnesty issued through Presidential Decree number 17 of 2025, Head of Cipinang Penitentiary Wachid Widodo confirmed here on Sunday.

"Granting amnesty is a mandate from the state which we carry out accordingly, with accountability. It’s a legitimate legal process that can shape the future of inmates," he elaborated.

The penitentiary's head of inmate coaching, Iwan Setiawan, voiced the same thing, saying that amnesty is not just about releasing the inmates, but also an opportunity for them to become better.

"Amnesty isn’t just about freedom. It’s a chance (for them) to improve themselves and make positive contributions to society," he said.
