He conveyed the information while reviewing the implementation of the Affordable Food Movement (GPM) in Mempawah district, West Kalimantan, on Friday, according to a statement released in Jakarta.
The SPHP rice distribution was carried out by regional police in the provinces of Central Java (283.75 tons), Banten (14 tons), East Java (10 tons), and West Kalimantan (2.5 tons).
He emphasized that Polri took the initiative to distribute the subsidized rice to show its commitment to supporting the government in ensuring sufficient availability of food commodities at affordable prices.
“Polri’s Affordable Food Movement is aimed at preventing price fluctuations, improving access for the public, maintaining sufficient stocks, and controlling inflation rates by making the most of the government’s rice reserves,” Prabowo said.
He added that the police plan to hold related events simultaneously at the Polri headquarters, provincial police offices, and district/municipal police stations on August 13 and 14 this year.
“During the events, we will offer additional commodities, such as cooking oil, eggs, sugar, and flour, at much more affordable prices,” he said.
The Polri chief expressed the hope that the GPM will bring concrete economic benefits to citizens in need.
In a separate statement, Polri’s Inspector General of Supervision, Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo, said that the police are working with state-run logistics company Bulog on the movement.
He explained that the initiative follows findings of rice being sold above the highest retail price (HET) in several regions.
“Polri shares the responsibility to ensure valid stock data and accurate distribution by coordinating closely with Bulog. Our plan is to echo this movement in the regions and, most importantly, prevent any misappropriation,” Prasetyo said.
