"I invite all parties and levels of society to contribute to the success of President Prabowo Subianto's program," said Irma Suryani, a member of Commission IX of the House of Representatives (DPR), during a visit to Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU), South Sumatra, on Saturday.
Suryani, who monitored the program's rollout with the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), said the MBG initiative targets schoolchildren, pregnant women, and the elderly — groups most vulnerable to nutritional deficiencies.
"Nutrition remains a serious challenge in various regions of Indonesia, including this district and other parts of South Sumatra," she said, noting that high rates of child stunting and malnutrition require urgent collective action.
By expanding the program's coverage, she added, the government aims to reduce malnutrition cases, which are a leading cause of stunting.
Alwin Supriyadi, Senior Analyst for Promotion and Cooperation at BGN, said MBG is part of President Prabowo's concrete efforts to improve community welfare through better nutrition.
He noted that in OKU and neighboring districts, around 60,000 schoolchildren have already benefited from the program.
"This is part of a joint effort to create a healthy, strong, and intelligent generation," Supriyadi said, emphasizing the program's focus on elementary school students.
He added that with Indonesia projected to have a large young population by 2045, MBG will serve as an important foundation for nurturing a productive and competitive generation in the future.
