KAI Vice President of Public Relations Anne Purba said Tuesday the service aims to provide a safer, more spacious, and efficient transportation option for moving agricultural goods.
"KAI continues to innovate based on real public needs," Purba said.
One of the company's latest initiatives is modifying Economy Class Passenger Trains (K3) to serve farmers and traders. The work is currently underway at the Balai Yasa Surabaya Gubeng Technical Operations Unit, she added.
She said the train is a modified version of existing business and economy class coaches and is currently undergoing a series of tests.
The redesign prioritizes easy access and increased cargo space. Seats are positioned along the sides of the train, leaving the center aisle open to accommodate agricultural goods and allow easier movement.

Several technical adjustments were also made to meet the service's specific needs.
The boarding door has been widened from 800 mm to 900 mm, partition walls and the gangway have been removed for better access, and seating capacity has been reduced from 106 to 73.
Each carriage still includes a toilet and overhead luggage racks for passenger convenience.
Static testing took place on August 14–15 at the Balai Yasa Surabaya Gubeng facility, followed by dynamic testing on August 15 along the Surabaya Gubeng–Lamongan round-trip route.
Purba said the service reflects KAI's commitment to inclusive public transportation and supporting local economic activity.
"We want these trains to be a reliable travel companion for farmers and traders. With the right transport, supply chains will strengthen, business opportunities will grow, and local economies will thrive," she said.
The train's launch also coincides with KAI's 80th anniversary on September 28, 2025, highlighting the company's long-standing role in driving national mobility.
