"The Ministry of Creative Economy remains committed to strengthening the creative value chain, particularly the music subsector," Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, Irene Umar, said in a press statement received here on Tuesday.
One form of the collaboration is between the Ministry of Creative Economy and the Federation of Indonesian Musicians Union (Fesmi).
Fesmi is a professional musicians' union organization that combines and coordinates eight musicians' unions in Indonesia and has been legally registered since 2020.
The collaboration supported creative talents to strengthen the national music ecosystem, one of which was manifested in the "ASIK, Kemerdekaan!" event.
"We hope that the collaboration between the government and Fesmi can inspire fellow creative economy champions in the music industry," she said.
The "ASIK, Kemerdekaan!" series also included a discussion session with the Ministry of Creative Economy, "Musicians Ask and Speak."
Umar, accompanied by the Presidential Special Staff for the Creative Economy, Yovie Widianto, attended ASIK, Kemerdekaan! event in Autograph Tower, Jakarta on Monday.
The event also served as a follow-up to the joint audience with Fesmi held on June 18th, 2025, as a forum for open dialogue to unify visions and develop strategic steps to enable music to become a driving force for the creative economy.
According to Umar, the music union could facilitate coordination between the government and Indonesian musicians of international standing.
"The Ministry of Creative Economy is not just fighting for royalties; there are values that must be maintained so that all elements of music can contribute to economic growth. We will also continue to collaborate across sectors and ministries, ensuring synchronization to find appropriate solutions and policies," she said.
Meanwhile, Widianto expressed the hope that Fesmi would consistently contribute to the development of Indonesian music.
He stated that supporting Indonesia's outstanding talents is crucial to fostering a more advanced, healthy, and proud national music ecosystem.
"I fully understand that musicians, singers, and composers are part of a vital mutual symbiosis for the Indonesian music industry. Moreover, our colleagues at Fesmi are highly productive in their work, so they understand how to obtain the proper proportion of rights they have worked for and fought for together," he said.
Fesmi Chairman, Cholil Mahmud, stated that the federation also focused on empowering and protecting the musician profession by conducting research and recommending policies that were expected to contribute to a more conducive music industry ecosystem.
"Fesmi remains focused on educating people about the importance of organizing or forming unions, prioritizing musicians' interests and fostering collaboration with various stakeholders. We can discuss and voice various music-related issues together," he said.
