Makassar (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government is strengthening institutional synergy to combat and prevent drug trafficking, particularly in the eastern regions.

Husain Abdullah, special staff to the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, delivered the statement during a coordination meeting on drug eradication in Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Thursday.

The meeting aimed to support the implementation of the Drug Prevention, Eradication, Abuse, and Illicit Trafficking (P4GN) program in eastern Indonesia.

"We must prove that the state is present, that the government is serious, and that the people have the right to a drug-free environment," Abdullah said.

He emphasized that the coordination meeting should serve as a concrete step to align the actions and commitments of all stakeholders in strengthening the integrated implementation of the P4GN program in South Sulawesi.

"Collaboration between agencies and the support of all elements of society must be the key to creating an environment free from drug abuse and illicit trafficking," he added.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the National Narcotics Agency (BNNP), the Health Service, the National Police (Polri), and regional governments across South Sulawesi.

South Sulawesi Health Service head Ishaq Iskandar said his office has facilitated rehabilitation programs for drug addicts and abuse victims through healthcare facilities, both inpatient and outpatient.

A total of 563 cases have been handled so far, the largest number in Makassar City with 155 cases, he told the meeting.
