Blora (ANTARA) - The Muria Raya Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has deployed 13 firetrucks to extinguish the fire at an illegal oil well in Gandu Village, Bogorejo Sub-district, Blora District, Central Java.

"These dozens of fire trucks come from the BPBDs of Rembang, Pati, Kudus, Grobogan, and Jepara Districts," Acting Head of the Blora BPBD, Mulyowati, said in Blora on Friday.

According to her, cross-regional assistance is crucial to prevent water supply disruptions, as had occurred previously.

"Today, we are preparing to put out the fire with support from Pertamina technicians. Thirteen 5,000-liter tankers are on standby at the location. Hopefully, the water supply will not be interrupted this time," she said.

She added that Pertamina’s technical team has also prepared extinguishing methods and equipment in the field. Several tankers are ready to take turns transporting water to maintain a steady flow.

"The key is to ensure the water supply does not stop. That is Pertamina's request. God willing, with this coordination, the fire can be extinguished soon. However, we remain alert to the possibility of new leaks," she emphasized.

Mulyowati said displaced residents are still being asked to remain at the command post until conditions are declared safe.

"Currently, our focus is on extinguishing the fire. Mobilizing heavy equipment requires smooth road access, so we also hope for public support to avoid any obstacles in the field," she said.

The oil well fire in Dukuh Gendono began on Sunday, August 17, at around 11:30 a.m. local time, killing three residents and injuring two others.

As of August 22, a joint team is still working to extinguish the fire, while residents near the site have been evacuated to safety.
