Bojonegoro, E Java (ANTARA News) - PT Pertamina EP, a subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas firm Pertamina, began on Sunday to rehabilitate an area affected by an oil spill in Sambong village, Sambong subdistrict, Blora regency, Central Java.

"The cleaning process using oil spill dispersant is expected to proceed for about five days," Pertamina EP spokesman Agus Amperianto said here on Sunday.

He said that the area affected by the oil spill which was a result of oil pine thefts in Sambong village, covered 9.6 hectares but locations which were still believed to have oil spills covered more than two hectares.

"The oil spill cleaning involved 15 personnel from the company and local residents," he said.

He said that rehabilitation efforts would last about ten days. During the process, samples of soil in the affected areas would also be extracted for analysis to know its condition before and the rehabilitation efforts.

"Pertamina EP also provided explanations on the risks and rehabilitation programs to the people living in the surrounding areas," he said.

The area has been affected by oil spills due to the theft of a 4-meter section of the pipeline between Nglobo and Cepu in Samgong village, Sambong subdistrict, Blora regency on Thursday.(*)
