Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman received the Bintang Mahaputra Adipurna—the highest class of the Bintang Mahaputra award—from President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday.

The award, one of Indonesia’s highest civilian honors awarded by the President to individuals who have rendered extraordinary service to the nation, acknowledges Amran’s contributions to agricultural development, including food self-sufficiency programs, equipment and seed subsidies, and strategic import controls.

He expressed deep gratitude, emphasizing that the recognition honors not just his efforts, but the dedication of farmers nationwide.

“This is an award for Indonesian farmers, bestowed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia,” Amran said following the honorary medal ceremony.

Under his leadership, the Ministry of Agriculture has advanced key initiatives to boost productivity, promote commodity downstreaming, and modernize farming through mechanization.

Among the sector’s recent achievements was the halting of rice imports through August 2025 despite the global food crisis.

Moreover, national rice production rose from 30.62 million tons in 2024 to an estimated 33.8–35.6 million tons in 2025, according to FAO, USDA, and Statistic Indonesia (BPS) data.

In addition, the national rice reserves (CBP) hit a 57-year high of 4.2 million tons, far surpassing last year’s 1 million tons.

“We will continue working to ensure Indonesia’s food supply is secure, sovereign, and improves farmers’ welfare,” Amran affirmed.

This marks Amran’s second Bintang Mahaputra honor, following the Adipradana award presented by President Joko Widodo in November 2020.

He also received the Satya Lencana Pembangunan for Agricultural Entrepreneurship from President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in 2007.
