The statement was delivered by Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, conveying the President’s message during the Plenary Session of the Red and White Cabinet held at the Presidential Office on Sunday.
“If incidents occur that threaten the safety of officials—including looting of their homes—security personnel must not hesitate to respond decisively,” the President said.
According to Sjamsoeddin, President Prabowo instructed the Chief of Police and the Commander of the Armed Forces (TNI) to take measured action against those responsible for riots and looting targeting the residences of state officials and government institutions.
In addition to calling for the protection of officials and public assets, the President urged the TNI and Police to maintain national stability and strengthen coordination with the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), the Attorney General’s Office, and regional governments.
He emphasized that solidarity among all security personnel is essential to maintaining public order and supporting the national economic agenda.
The wave of demonstrations that began at the House of Representatives on August 25, 2025, escalated into widespread riots.
Following the death of an online motorcycle taxi driver on August 28—struck by a police tactical vehicle during a protest—public anger intensified, resulting in the destruction of numerous public facilities.
Rioters burned and vandalized police stations and bus stops, attacked the Mobile Brigade Corps Command Headquarters (Mako Brimob), and looted the homes of several members of parliament.
The unrest in Jakarta on August 30–31, 2025, saw mobs targeting the residences of various officials and public figures.
The home of parliament member Ahmad Sahroni in North Jakarta was broken into, with valuables such as a television, refrigerator, air conditioner, and a collection of human-sized action figures stolen. The mob also damaged vehicles, fences, and windows.
The residences of parliament members Surya Utama (Uya Kuya) in Duren Sawit and Eko Patrio in Kuningan, South Jakarta, were also looted, with nearly all contents taken.
Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati’s home was targeted early Sunday morning, along with several other properties, including one rented by parliament member Nafa Urbach.
