"First, there should be no bullying from anyone to anyone. Second, there should be no physical or sexual violence. Third, there should be no intolerance. If there are any signs of these, report them immediately and follow up; don't take them lightly," said Saifullah Yusuf in his directive to Sekolah Rakyat teachers delivered in hybrid mode from the Ministry's Office, here on Tuesday.
He reminded school principals, dormitory guardians, and foster carers across Indonesia to uphold the principles of empathy, patience, and role modelling. This, he noted is especially important as Sekolah Rakyat are still in their early stages and therefore face many challenges.
"I encourage you to work with your heart, improve your skills, and most importantly, be patient. Let's solve problems through collaboration, coordination, discipline, and deliberation," he said.
During the dialogue session, several educational staff members shared their views. One of them was Silva, a foster carer at Sekolah Rakyat Junior High (SRMP) 28 Pasuruan, expressed concern over the limited number of mentors in her area, despite the number of students reaching 50.
In response, Minister Saifullah Yusuf assured them, that all input had been noted and that the need for human resources and infrastructure would be met gradually.
"Don't worry, salaries and allowances will be received in accordance with regulations," the Minister stated.
He added that the working hours of dormitory guardians and foster carers would also be regulated to ensure better performance. The government, he said, is working hard to fulfill the rights of all educational staff.
Concluding his remarks, the Social Minister emphasized that dormitory guardians and foster carers are not merely supervisors but serve as family figures at the school.
"Sekolah Rakyat are a second home for students. Children should not feel alone. They should feel loved and cared for, not just accommodated," Minister Saifullah Yusuf concluded.
