Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi on Monday urged a breakthrough in digital innovation to enhance air travel management and public services amid global challenges.

“We must seize digital transformation to boost competitiveness and improve customer satisfaction,” Purwagandhi said during a technical coordination meeting.

He described the meeting as a key step toward creating a more inclusive, modern, and competitive air travel sector.

“This includes digital recording and monitoring of aircraft traffic, optimizing airport capacity, and improving flight routes,” the minister added.

Purwagandhi emphasized the need for cross-sector support, calling on the Finance Ministry for improved budgeting and the State Apparatus Utilization and Bureaucratic Reform Ministry to accelerate human resource development and digitalize public services.

He also highlighted the role of the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development in shaping supportive policies for air transportation.

“Coordination proves our commitment to strengthen the sector, which remains vital for national economic growth amid global uncertainties,” he said.

Meanwhile, State Apparatus Utilization and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Rini Widyantini stressed that technology is no longer just a tool but the driving force behind transformation.

Quoting the International Air Transport Association (IATA), she noted Indonesia is projected to become the world’s fourth-largest aviation market by 2036, with 355 million passengers.

Widyantini said realizing this potential requires government support, strong policies, high-quality public services, and skilled professionals in the sector.

She added that rapid technological advances, such as smart airports and AI for passenger flow management and predictive aircraft maintenance, are transforming air travel.

“This demands civil servants not only be technology users but also providers of adaptive, safe, and competitive services,” Widyantini concluded.
