Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti immediately distributed aid to Cileungsi 1 Vocational School following the roof collapse that occurred on Tuesday (September 9).

Mu'ti also expressed his condolences for the tragedy and promised to provide necessary assistance to both the school and the students who suffered injuries from the incident.

"This is a disaster that we do not want. We also express our condolences to students hit by the collapsed building and are now receiving treatment," he stated during his visit to Cileungsi 1 Vocational School on Thursday.

So far, the ministry has built three tents for emergency classrooms, ready for operation on September 15, with a hybrid learning method, alternating between offline and online learning.

In addition, the government also provided compensation and psychosocial support to 30 students and two teachers who were injured in the incident.

To repair the collapsed and damaged school buildings, the ministry's Directorate of Vocational High Schools has allocated a budget of Rp2 billion (US$117 thousand) to repair three buildings.

According to Mu'ti, the repairs will be included in the Education Unit Revitalization Program, which is part of the Fastest Best Results Program (PHTC) in the education sector.

The renovation of Cileungsi 1 Vocational School is targeted for completion before December 15 under a self-managed construction scheme, he added.

"We will immediately repair the damaged school using the 2023 budget. We hope that construction activities can be completed by mid-December this year for students to continue their education," he remarked.

Previously, on Tuesday (September 9), a roof collapsed at Cileungsi 1 Vocational School at 9:15 a.m. during learning activities, including the socialization of job skills certification for 12th-grade students.

Following the incident, the school reported that 30 students suffered minor to moderate injuries. Some have received treatment, while others are still being treated at Radjak Hospital in Cileungsi.
