The Head of Civil Registration at the Jakarta Dukcapil Office, Witri Yenny, on Tuesday, said the number of intermarriages between American men and Indonesian women was recorded at 158.
Furthermore, 132 couples consisted of Singaporean men and Indonesian women, followed by 120 couples from Germany and Indonesia.
There were also 113 couples from China and Indonesia, 103 couples from Australia and Indonesia, 99 couples from Malaysia and Indonesia, 90 couples from Japan and Indonesia, 90 couples from the Netherlands and Indonesia, 84 couples from the United Kingdom and Indonesia, and 55 couples from South Korea and Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Yenny conveyed that the most common mixed marriages between Indonesian men and foreign women are with Singaporeans, with a total of 58 couples.
"For Indonesian husbands and foreign wives, it's different; Singaporeans are dominating," she remarked.
This data is followed by Indonesia-China (53 couples), Indonesia-Japan (47), Indonesia-Malaysia (41), Indonesia-South Korea (36), Indonesia-Australia (22), Indonesia-Philippines (22), Indonesia-Thailand (18), Indonesia-Vietnam (17), and Indonesia-India (16).
According to her, the total number of mixed marriages reported to the Jakarta Population and Civil Registration Office was 1,952 from 2020 to August 2023.
"The average from 2020 to 2023 is around 250-300 couples per year," she added.
She also reminded residents to register their marriages with the Dukcapil if they marry a foreign national, in order for their marriage to be officially recognized by the state.
"Civil registration, do not just stop at a religious blessing; the marriage must be registered and officially recognized by the state. This will also provide certainty regarding the child's status," she emphasized.
Mixed marriages are regulated in Articles 57 to 62 of Law Number 1 of 1974 concerning Marriage. This marriage is between two individuals, an Indonesian citizen and a foreign national.
