Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government is considering the possibility of transforming the State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Ministry into an agency as part of the ongoing revision of the SOEs Law, State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi confirmed.

"It is possible for the government to demote the status of the SOEs Ministry, designating it as an agency. Yes, we are weighing that possibility," he told reporters after a meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Speaking at the Parliamentary Complex, Hadi explained that the option partly stems from the narrowing scope of the SOEs Ministry’s role in Indonesia’s investment landscape following the establishment of the sovereign wealth fund Danantara.

He observed that operational responsibilities now largely lie with Danantara, while the SOEs Ministry has become more focused on its regulatory role.

However, Hadi stressed that the final decision on the ministry’s status depends on the conclusion of deliberations on the SOEs Bill at Commission VI of the DPR, noting that the draft law is expected to provide clearer provisions regarding SOEs and related institutions.

He also affirmed the government’s commitment to expedite the bill’s passage.

"Yes, we hope the legislative process will be completed quickly, within this week or before DPR’s recess period, if possible," he stated.

Earlier in the day, the DPR held a plenary meeting to deliberate several legislative matters, including revisions to the 2025–2029 National Legislative Program (Prolegnas). The agenda included the addition of 23 bills, among them one amending Law No. 19 of 2003 on SOEs.

Regarding the SOEs Ministry, the government has also raised the possibility of merging it with Danantara.

Deliberations on the SOEs Bill have been declared a priority for 2025, while those on the Danantara Bill are slated for next year.
