Padang (ANTARA) - The collaboration between the Ministry of Public Works (PU) and the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has shown significant progress in strengthening disaster mitigation efforts across Indonesia.

Understanding of seismic risks has improved through joint research, surveys, and modeling conducted with scientists and other stakeholders.

These advancements have enabled a more comprehensive mapping of earthquake risks, which now serves as a crucial foundation for spatial planning, infrastructure development, and mitigation strategies.

This approach helps communities become better prepared for potential disasters.

Deputy Minister of Public Works Diana Kusumastuti emphasized that preparedness is a vital factor in safeguarding public safety.

She also highlighted the direction of national development over the next five years under President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita agenda.

The development framework focuses on accelerating national transformation through infrastructure strengthening, human resource development, industrialization, downstreaming, and equitable village development to reduce economic disparities and poverty.

This transformation also includes enhancing research and innovation, reinforcing national resilience, and improving the ability to respond to climate change and extreme weather.

Addressing major challenges such as disaster threats requires serious anticipation, and cross-sector collaboration is seen as the key to realizing Asta Cita while reinforcing disaster mitigation in Indonesia.
