An official of the ESDM Service, Elly Luchritia Nota, said in Samarinda on Friday that her office is bringing together stakeholders to coordinate efforts and map out both the potential and challenges of renewable energy investment in the province.
“Particularly for solar power plants, hydropower plants, and biomethane, development can be significantly accelerated,” she said.
The initiative follows up on the first round of discussions at the Regional Consultation Forum (FKD), with a focus on increasing investment in one of the province’s priority economic sectors, namely electricity and gas from renewable energy.
Currently, the East Kalimantan Provincial Government is prioritizing the development of solar power plants (PLTS) and biogas, while also planning the construction of hydropower plants in Mahakam Ulu and Kutai Kartanegara Districts.
According to Syamsuddin, a policy analyst at the East Kalimantan ESDM Service, solar energy is currently the most practical and promising option for large-scale development in the province.
“The solar power plant program is strategic because it fulfills two goals, providing electricity to remote areas and increasing the share of clean energy in East Kalimantan,” he said.
So far, the solar power plant program has supplied electricity to 72 remote villages across four districts in the province.
