Tangerang (ANTARA) - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka urged animal feed factories in Banten Province to help optimize the absorption of local corn farmers’ yields as offtakers.

“Banten has a huge number of factories, including those producing animal feed. This region is also home to many self-reliant ranchers. In other words, there already exists an industry that absorbs locally cultivated corn,” he remarked in Tangerang, Banten, on Wednesday.

Despite the well-established agricultural supply chain ecosystem, Gibran still considers it crucial for the government to take steps to further boost the absorption rate of local harvests.

On that note, the Vice President called on local leaders as well as relevant ministries and government agencies to identify viable steps to ensure that farmers can optimally channel their produce to distributors and consumers.

He specifically addressed state-run logistics company Bulog, urging it to continue innovating and pursuing breakthroughs to boost yield absorption.

Furthermore, he alluded to the substandard quality and quantity of local harvests, attributing this issue to farmers’ inadequate access to proper irrigation, affordable fertilizers and seeds, and reliable agricultural equipment and machinery.

“Bearing this in mind, I would like to urge all relevant parties to provide farmers with mentoring, training, and broader access. I am convinced that by working hand in hand, we can address all evident issues,” Gibran pointed out.

The Vice President also instructed ministries and local governments to continue fostering innovation to elevate farmers’ living standards, highlighting the need to master or develop technology, ensure sufficient seeds and fertilizers, and facilitate yield distribution.

“The use of modern machinery can bolster productivity,” he said.

He reiterated the importance of building synergy and collaboration among stakeholders across sectors in advancing Indonesia’s food security drive.

“It is crucial for all of us to intensify collaborative work to actualize President Prabowo Subianto’s vision of self-sufficiency in food,” he affirmed, noting that the head of state places emphasis on fully tapping into Indonesia’s strategic commodities to boost food security.
