Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital, in collaboration with the Financial Services Authority (OJK), has blocked 23,929 bank accounts linked to online gambling transactions as part of a nationwide crackdown, Minister Meutya Hafid said on Tuesday.

“This action is part of our firm commitment to eradicate online gambling, which harms the public and the economy. We want to ensure that all financial flows from illegal activities like online gambling are completely cut off,” Hafid said in a statement.

She noted that the blocked accounts were identified through cyber patrols and public reports submitted to her ministry. The move, she added, represents a coordinated effort among ministries and agencies to curb online gambling by shutting down financial channels between users and gambling operators.

The minister urged the public to report suspected gambling sites and bank accounts through official complaint platforms.

“We encourage the public to continue reporting suspicious sites, accounts, or activities related to online gambling,” Hafid said.

Complaints can be filed through the aduankonten.id website to report online gambling content and cekrekening.id to report bank accounts allegedly used for gambling transactions.

From October 20, 2024, to September 16, 2025, the ministry handled over 2.1 million online gambling-related content in Indonesia’s digital space, according to Director General of Digital Space Supervision Alexander Sabar.

“In that period, we removed more than 2.8 million pieces of harmful content, with online gambling making up the majority,” Sabar said.

Of the total, 1,932,131 were detected on websites or IPs, 97,779 on file-sharing platforms, 94,004 on Meta, 35,092 on Google, 17,417 on X, 1,742 on Telegram, 1,001 on TikTok, 14 on Line, and three on app stores.

The Indonesian government has intensified efforts to combat online gambling amid concerns over its growing social and financial impact, with authorities vowing tougher enforcement and stronger cooperation across agencies.
