Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Provincial Government and Danantara have reached an agreement on the technical aspects of their cooperation for the construction of a waste-to-energy power plant (PLTSa).

According to Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo, Jakarta is more advanced in infrastructure development compared to other regions.

“We have held several discussions with Danantara and have reached an agreement. Compared to other regions, Jakarta’s infrastructure is more developed,” Pramono said in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He noted that Jakarta produces between 7,700 and 8,000 tons of waste daily, with around 55 million tons currently accumulated at the Bantargebang waste disposal site. This large supply, he added, allows Jakarta to operate multiple waste-to-energy plants simultaneously.

Each PLTSa facility, Pramono explained, can generate around 35 megawatts of electricity. With an input capacity of 2,500–3,000 tons of waste per day, Jakarta could build four to five plants, each contributing significantly to the city’s renewable energy capacity.

The governor also said that international investors and operators have expressed strong interest in the project, as Jakarta is considered both technically and commercially ready.

Pramono added that the waste-to-energy project could eventually eliminate the need for a tipping fee scheme if electricity tariffs align with market standards. He noted that this would further accelerate Jakarta’s efforts to address its waste management challenges.

“We can certainly collaborate with PLN. If the electricity price is 20 cents per kWh, there will be no need for a tipping fee,” Pramono stated.

He expressed confidence that Jakarta’s waste issue will soon be resolved and voiced hope that the construction of the waste-to-energy plants would proceed smoothly.
