"Today, the East Java Regional Police’s DVI team has finished identifying five body bags. All of them matched the five antemortem data reported by the families," said the East Java Police’s Head of the Medical and Health Division, Senior Commissioner M. Khusnan Marzuki, on Wednesday.
With the identification of these five additional victims, all 63 people previously reported missing have been identified from a total of 67 body bags received by the DVI team.
"As of today, all missing victims have been identified. A total of 63 people have been identified," Marzuki confirmed.
He stated that the DVI operation was officially declared complete and closed following the conclusion of the identification process.
"Tonight, we will hand over all the bodies to their respective families according to the verified identities," he added.
Marzuki noted that the identification process was carried out by a coordinated team, supported by the Indonesian Forensic Doctors Association, the identification unit, and the DNA laboratory of the National Police Medical and Health Center (Pusdokkes).
"Everyone worked optimally, without wasting any time," he said, adding that the team worked around the clock in the first few days, leading to faster results than initially expected.
Responding to questions about the condition of the victims, Marzuki stated that all body bags sent to the DVI team had been fully identified.
"All were identified through a combination of DNA, medical, and property data. There were no unidentified remains," he emphasized.
He also conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims and expressed appreciation to all parties who supported the DVI operation.
"This operation ran smoothly thanks to everyone’s support. May it be a good deed for all of us," he said.
