The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to building a stronger living ecosystem for transmigrants while assisting local governments in carrying out their responsibilities sustainably.
“For the development of transmigration areas, infrastructure, and related programs, we have allocated over Rp300 billion to support local governments in fulfilling their duties. We share this responsibility,” Transmigration Minister Muhammad Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara said on Sunday.
Referring to Law Number 29 of 2009 on Transmigration, he explained that community development in transmigration areas by the central government is limited to a maximum of five years from the date of settlement.
Beyond that period, the development of transmigration settlements becomes the full responsibility of local governments.
However, he noted that many regions are still not ready to fully assume this responsibility independently.
Suryanagara emphasized that transmigration is not merely about relocating people and building houses, but about developing a complete living ecosystem that includes employment, education, healthcare, and essential infrastructure.
He added that the main goal is to provide transmigrants with strong incentives to settle permanently and actively contribute to regional development.
To support the development of transmigration areas, the ministry is currently focusing on five key programs.
First, Transmigration Tuntas, which resolves land issues in transmigration areas. Second, Transmigration Lokal, which empowers local communities without requiring long-distance relocation to help reduce urbanization.
Third, Transmigration Patriot, which deploys skilled human resources to serve in transmigration regions. Fourth, Transmigration Karya Nusantara, which promotes economic growth based on the potential of transmigration areas to create jobs.
Fifth, Transmigration Gotong Royong, which fosters collaboration among the government, businesses, universities, and regions to accelerate transmigration areas development.
