Muhammadiyah — one of Indonesia's largest Islamic organizations — obtained the verification after a long and comprehensive process that began in 2017.
WHO EMT Secretariat Roy Anthony Cosico personally handed over the Confirmation Letter for EMT Global Classification to the Muhammadiyah EMT at PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping Hospital in Yogyakarta on Sunday.
Syafiq A. Mughni, Chair of Muhammadiyah's International Relations and Cooperation Division, said the historic milestone reflects the successful implementation of Muhammadiyah's 2022–2027 priority program.
The program aims to expand and institutionalize Muhammadiyah's international presence in the mission of da'wah (promoting Islamic teachings) and social renewal for the benefit of humanity.
"Through our commitment and technical expertise, supported by extensive field experience, we will continue to deliver our best for humanity and national welfare," he said.
Meanwhile, Agus Taufiqurrahman, Chair of Muhammadiyah's Health, Social Welfare, and Disaster Resilience Division, expressed hope that Muhammadiyah's humanitarian work would continue to strengthen and play an active role internationally.
"After a long journey, Muhammadiyah has successfully completed the WHO verification process, officially becoming Indonesia's first verified EMT and the 16th worldwide," he said.
"This achievement also raises expectations for Muhammadiyah to further strengthen its contributions as an integral part of the international humanitarian community," he added.
Before the verification, Muhammadiyah EMT underwent a pre-verification process conducted by WHO on July 9–10 in Yogyakarta, with technical guidance from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) and Germany's International Search and Rescue (ISAR).
Following the evaluation, WHO confirmed that Muhammadiyah EMT met all requirements to proceed to the final verification stage and gain official status as an international emergency medical team.
