Hafid made the remarks during a media gathering here on Wednesday, in response to President Prabowo Subianto’s instruction to explore more affordable connectivity alternatives.
“The President said we need to find connectivity solutions that are cheaper than low Earth orbit satellites such as Starlink,” Hafid explained.
She said the ministry has recently completed the development of an innovation called Fixed Wireless Access technology, which aims to deliver more affordable internet access while expanding network coverage to residential areas.
“We have recently completed one technological breakthrough, Fixed Wireless Access, which enables cheaper connections and wider coverage reaching residential areas,” she said.
Earlier, during a plenary cabinet meeting at the State Palace on Monday, President Prabowo said the government is preparing low-cost connectivity technology to help schools in regions with limited internet access remain connected to digital learning systems.
He also mentioned that the government has begun distributing interactive learning devices to strengthen digital education nationwide, including in outermost and remote areas that still face limited access to teachers and learning facilities.
“This year, we will provide interactive flat panels, or 75-inch digital screens, in every elementary, junior, and senior high school. We have already distributed these panels to nearly 50,000 schools,” Prabowo said.
Hafid added that the government has prepared a program to provide fixed internet access with speeds of up to 100 Mbps, prioritized for areas without fiber optic networks or in blank spots, including schools, local health centers, and village offices.
