“MSMEs are the backbone of our economy,” said Director General of Domestic Trade Iqbal Shoffan Shofwan, noting their contribution of 60.51 percent to GDP and employment for 120.59 million people, or 97 percent of the workforce.
With micro businesses comprising 99.62 percent of all enterprises, the MSME sector’s potential is projected to reach US$135 billion in 2025.
To strengthen MSMEs, especially those targeting exports, the ministry is enhancing capacity-building efforts, integrating global trade information, and promoting e-commerce.
It also launched the UMKM BISA Ekspor program, which provides mentoring, business matching, and pitching opportunities.
From January to September 2025, the program facilitated US$108.82 million in MSME transactions and organized 501 business matching events involving over 1,000 MSMEs.
In addition, the ministry is promoting local product purchases through expanded financing access and national campaigns such as Proud of Indonesian Product (BBI) to boost brand visibility and domestic demand.
