Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - Bali and Australia’s Northern Territory are exploring cooperation in clean energy, trade, and education, officials said after a meeting between Bali Governor Wayan Koster and Northern Territory Trade, Business, and Asian Engagement Minister Robyn Cahill on October 29.

Governor Koster said Bali would form a special team to follow up on discussions covering energy, investment, education, and the promotion of local Balinese products for the Australian market.

He highlighted the strong potential for broader bilateral cooperation beyond energy, including tourism, healthcare, nursing, digital economy, and creative industries.

With Northern Territory’s support, Koster said the goal is to ensure tangible benefits for Balinese communities while strengthening longstanding ties in trade, tourism, education, and clean energy.

Minister Cahill said Northern Territory is ready to back Bali’s strategic initiatives, including the Bali Mandiri Energi program.

She noted that Northern Territory’s experience in transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy, including natural gas and solar, provides a basis for collaboration with Bali on sustainable energy goals.

Cahill emphasized the close cultural and human connection between Northern Territory and Bali, noting the region’s residents view Bali not just as a tourist destination but as a close friend with shared cultural bonds.

The two regions are separated by a short two-hour flight from Darwin, reinforcing geographic and emotional ties.

The discussion also included informal moments, such as tasting Bali’s arak mixed with coffee, offered by Governor Koster to the Northern Territory delegation.

The meeting was attended by senior Northern Territory officials including Chief of Staff Brett Hannam, Senior Director David Orr, Deputy Executive Kelly Ralston, and Innovation Director Martin Redhead.

From the Australian Consulate-General in Bali, Consul-General Jo Stevens, Economic and Trade Officer Lachlan Norton, and Public Diplomacy Officer Reskiana participated.

As previously reported by ANTARA, at the 2022 G20 Summit in Bali, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expressed support for Indonesia’s clean energy initiatives, saying investment in clean energy would boost energy security and strengthen joint climate change efforts.

He noted that as a country rich in renewable energy resources, Australia is working to expand its clean energy export industry.

Albanese added that cooperation on clean energy with Indonesia and other countries could stimulate economic growth and improve living standards while maintaining a focus on reducing CO2 emissions.
