Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto expressed optimism that the recent meeting between United States President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping would help ease global political and economic tensions.

Prabowo shared his view after his bilateral talks with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon on the sidelines of the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Gyeongju, South Korea, on Friday.

"I heard that the meeting was held in a positive atmosphere, as we hoped. That encounter will have a significant impact on global stability, on which the world economy heavily depends," he remarked in a video statement released by the Indonesian Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta.

The president observed that the international system is currently marked by uncertainty stemming from a range of global issues, notably retaliatory trade policies and geopolitical instability.

In this regard, he emphasized that the 2025 APEC Summit provides world leaders with a platform to placate such tensions.

"We are all striving to cool the heat. Overall, the recent APEC meeting reflected a positive atmosphere," Prabowo stated, referring to his participation in the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting.

Earlier, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto voiced optimism that the Trump–Xi meeting would open new opportunities for Indonesia to attract investment from Asia-Pacific countries.

Speaking on the sidelines of the APEC Summit, he described the bilateral engagement as a step toward clarity on regional trade tariffs and hoped it would help contain escalating trade tensions.

Trump and Xi met for nearly two hours in Busan, South Korea, on Thursday (October 30), following bilateral trade talks between their delegations in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on October 25–26.

At the meeting, Xi invited Trump to lead the US toward a mutually beneficial partnership for shared prosperity while reaffirming his commitment to strengthening the foundation of China–US relations and fostering a conducive environment for shared development.

According to him, the US president expressed strong enthusiasm for resolving key regional issues.

“China has also pushed for peaceful negotiations to resolve major issues. The world is currently facing many serious challenges,” Xi remarked.
