“I have instructed all government officials that our first-year focus is food security because it is the most strategic,” he said during a visit to the New Tanah Abang Station on Tuesday.
To accelerate progress, Prabowo signed a decree establishing food self-sufficiency zones nationwide, aligned with the Asta Cita missions to empower farmers and promote sustainable agriculture. The government aims to achieve full food self-sufficiency by 2028.
Rejecting reliance on imports, Prabowo emphasized, “If any experts think it is acceptable to rely on imports, I consider them wrong. A sovereign nation must control, secure, and produce its own food.”
He noted that Indonesia has already reached record levels of food production and reserves, marking a critical step toward long-term sustainability. The administration also plans to pursue energy self-sufficiency.
In parallel, Prabowo highlighted the importance of expanding public transportation, particularly railways, to support lower-income communities.
He stressed that trains offer broader benefits than private vehicles and called for strengthening the national railway system.
Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman reported that rice production in 2025 is projected to reach 34.77 million tons—a 13.54% increase from 2024—crediting Prabowo’s agricultural policies for the milestone.
