“About 11 people are receiving treatment here, mostly with blurry vision and hearing loss. Minor injuries are being treated at this post,” said Krissensiana Orol Hotmatua, head of RT 07 Kelurahan Kelapa Gading Barat, Jakarta.
Severely injured students were first taken to the Navy Health Post in Kodamar and then referred to Cempaka Putih Islamic Hospital, Pertamina Hospital, and Yarsi Hospital for further treatment.
“Serious injuries are treated at hospitals, while 11 with minor injuries are handled as outpatients,” Krissensiana added. Two of the minor-injury patients suffered ear trauma, and one sustained a burn on the back.
“The hearing loss in many cases was caused by the shockwave from the blast,” she explained.
The explosion occurred during Friday prayers at SMAN 72, leaving multiple students injured.
Earlier, Deputy Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Lodewijk Freidrich Paulus reported three severe injuries and 17 minor injuries.
“Fortunately, no one died. There are 20 victims currently receiving treatment,” he said after visiting the school.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung confirmed that all medical expenses for the victims would be covered by the provincial government, regardless of the hospital.
“All treatment costs will be fully borne by the provincial government,” he said. “We are taking full responsibility for all victims’ care.”
The governor instructed the Education and Health Offices, along with the local mayor, to ensure proper treatment for all victims.
“Determining the perpetrator and cause falls under police authority,” he added. He also expressed condolences to the victims, noting that 55 students were affected and one would require surgery.
Indonesian Navy spokesman Rear Adm. Tunggul said the victims were initially taken to a local navy health post before being transferred to Cempaka Putih Islamic Hospital, Yarsi Hospital, and the Kelapa Gading community health center.
“Navy personnel provided first aid and evacuated the victims from the site to the Navy Housing Complex health post in Kelapa Gading before referring them to nearby hospitals,” Tunggul said in a statement in Jakarta.
He added that the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) and the National Police (Polri) remain at the scene to determine the cause and sequence of events leading to the blast.
