Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Saturday personally escorted Jordan’s King Abdullah II to Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, concluding the monarch’s two-day state visit and underscoring the deep diplomatic and personal ties between the two nations.

Arriving together around midday, Prabowo appeared in light, informal attire while King Abdullah wore full military dress.

The leaders exchanged brief remarks and greeted members of both delegations, which included senior officials from Indonesia’s defense, foreign affairs, investment, and military sectors.

They then walked past an honor guard toward the royal aircraft.

At the foot of the stairs, the two leaders exchanged a final salute and embraced before King Abdullah boarded.

His departure was accompanied by Indonesian Air Force F-16 fighter jets—a gesture of respect also extended upon his arrival, when seven F-16s and three T-50s escorted his plane into Indonesian airspace.

The visit featured a bilateral meeting at Merdeka Palace, where President Prabowo reaffirmed more than 70 years of Indonesia-Jordan relations and reflected on his personal bond with the Jordanian royal family, especially the late King Hussein.

He noted that his connection with Jordan dates back nearly three decades.

King Abdullah, in turn, spoke of his long friendship with Prabowo, noting that their shared military background shaped a leadership style grounded in care and courage.

He described the Indonesian president as a “longtime friend” and expressed pride in their enduring partnership.

During the visit, President Prabowo was awarded the Bejewelled Grand Cordon of Al Nahda (Order of the Renaissance), one of Jordan’s highest honors.

The state program concluded with an official dinner at the State Palace on Friday evening.

In his remarks, Prabowo emphasized that Indonesia regards Jordan not only as a diplomatic partner but as a brotherly nation whose cooperation must be sustained across generations.

He highlighted Jordan’s role in promoting international peace and its steadfast support for the Palestinian cause—an issue Indonesia strongly champions.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Sugiono noted that King Abdullah II met with Danantara Indonesia to discuss economic cooperation, particularly in phosphate commodities.

He added that both governments explored strategic partnerships across sectors including trade, defense, and security.
