Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Provincial Government requires 27 Stroke Ready Hospitals (SRH) to strengthen efforts to address one of the leading non-communicable diseases causing death worldwide, including in the city.

An SRH is a healthcare facility equipped with dedicated protocols, trained medical teams, adequate equipment, and rapid-response systems for stroke patients.

“Currently, Jakarta has only 23 hospitals designated as SRH, most of which are operated by private institutions,” Head of the Jakarta Health Office Ani Ruspitawati said during the 61st Jakarta Provincial National Health Day commemoration themed “Smart City, Healthy People” here on Thursday.

She noted that Tarakan Regional General Hospital in Central Jakarta is among the facilities categorized as an SRH and has even achieved international quality standards, including the WSO Angels Award.

Meanwhile, the remaining 22 SRH-designated hospitals have not all met the same global benchmarks.

The WSO Angels Award recognizes hospitals for their commitment and success in delivering high-quality stroke care.

She emphasized that the provincial government must accelerate the development of SRH facilities to address current public health challenges.

Stroke remains one of the leading causes of death globally, with at least seven million fatalities recorded each year. Nationally, the 2023 Indonesia Health Survey reported a stroke prevalence rate of 8.3 percent.

In Jakarta, with a population of more than 11.7 million, doctor-diagnosed stroke cases reached 24,981, according to the same survey.

To prevent stroke and other diseases, the government has promoted the Community Movement for Healthy Lifestyle (Germas) involving seven steps: performing physical activities, eating fruits and vegetables, not smoking, not consuming alcoholic beverages, conducting regular health checks, maintaining environmental cleanliness, and ensuring toilet hygiene.
