Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka stated that the government is focusing on four key measures to handle the impact of the widespread floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra provinces.

Through the Vice Presidential Secretariat’s Instagram account, Gibran emphasized the urgency of swiftly evacuating victims, ensuring the accurate delivery of essential logistics and basic goods to all affected areas, providing optimal medical services and adequate shelters, and fast-tracking the restoration of access to isolated regions.

"President Prabowo Subianto has instructed all his aides to move fast," he affirmed.

The vice president also expressed his grief over the devastating hydrometeorological disasters, highlighting fatalities, infrastructure damage, and extensive disruptions to social and economic activities in multiple districts and cities across the three provinces.

He called on all citizens nationwide to pray for the disaster-affected residents, expressing hope that they will remain resilient and overcome the hardships caused by the disasters.

"Let's hope for a quick and smooth recovery," he concluded.

On Friday morning, under President Prabowo's directive, the government and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) coordinated the deployment of four transport aircraft, comprising three Hercules and one A400, to deliver items and goods urgently needed by the disaster-hit regions.

The aid consignments include communication equipment, 150 tents, 64 inflatable boats, power generators, ready-to-eat meals, and medicines, dispatched from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta.

Present at the air base, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno noted that disaster emergency measures are being carried out by the central and local governments in collaboration with the TNI and the police.

He added that the government has also launched weather modification operations, taking advantage of the weakening of Tropical Cyclone Senyar to ease aid distribution.

Meanwhile, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya underscored that aid distribution has been underway since the beginning of this week.

Moreover, the Ministry of Public Works has fielded teams to restore access to areas that were cut off by the disasters.
