Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto promised evacuees in Kutacane, Southeast Aceh, on Monday that several bridges damaged by flash floods and landslides, including the Pantai Dona Bridge in Salim Pinim Village, would be repaired promptly.

Pantai Dona Bridge, located three kilometers from Alas Leuser Airport in Kutacane, was President Prabowo’s first stop upon arriving in Aceh to inspect disaster sites and evacuation posts.

“We will immediately open and repair the damaged bridges,” Prabowo told evacuees after inspecting Pantai Dona Bridge.

At the collapsed bridge site, the President personally instructed his accompanying officials, including Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo, on recovery measures.

Below the bridge, the brownish waters of the Alas River flowed strongly. Stretching across Southeast Aceh, the Alas River is the longest in Aceh, running from the Leuser Mountains to the Indian Ocean.

A police line was installed to prevent public access.

Pantai Dona Bridge is a key infrastructure connecting three sub-districts: Lawe Alas, Tanoh Alas, and Babul Rahmah.

Besides it, three steel-frame bridges to these sub-districts and to Darul Hasanah sub-district also collapsed under the river’s force on Thursday (November 27).

The Aceh Public Works and Spatial Planning Office reported on Friday (Nov 28) that over 20 bridges across the province suffered severe damage from the floods and landslides.

Other bridges destroyed in Southeast Aceh include Silayakh, Natam, Salim Pipit, and Mbarung.

In Gayo Lues District, damaged bridges include Pasir Putih and Pintu Rime. In Aceh Singkil, Suak Toben, Suak Sigide Tepin Tinggi, and Gosong Telaga bridges were affected.

Bireuen also suffered bridge collapses in Teupin Reudep and Ule along the district roads.
